what to read?

I always like to read newspapers. But with almost every newspaper of the world available on line it is little difficult to make a choice. I have my preferences in this following order

1. Regional News, I mean Madurai News, thanks to dinamalar, dinakaran and dailythanthi.
2. Indian News, Hindu, Indian express, Rediff are my primary sources
3. World news: As if I am going to run for next US presidency, I read CNN Headlines and NY times every 10 or 15 minutes. But my most favorite is BBC news; they have amazing neutrality when it comes to reporting.

I will like to know what are the preferences of my beloved 1000 or so readers of this excellent blog!!!!.

To encourage you to develop that habit of refreshing each day “Dinamalar” or “Dinakaran “ pages often times from three pm to four pm (appo thaane sooda padika mudium) I am quoting two hilarious news I read today (9/22) in dinamalar.

Confusion about Madras University – Invention of History.

There was a huge pandemonium at our tamilnadu regarding a most ambiguous bill. The Tamilnadu government has passed a bill that hereafter “Madras University” has to be called Madras University and it will not be addressed as Chennai Universitiy (?). Did any one called it as “Chennai University”? No, Never! Then why the bill now? No one knows. All our MLAs had jolly good time fighting.

Anyways during that discussion, law minister Mr.Jayakumar suddenly invented that “Madras” is named after one “madharesan” who was the king of then (when, any dates Mr.Minister?) Madras, which was nothing but small fishermen hamlet then (What was it called anyway then?).

There was a shepherd named Sekar of Theni, in whose flock of goats a cheetah cub accidently got mixed up when they were grazing in forest area. He tried to sell that cub and on knowing this forest department has sent him to jail and the cub to zoo.
Enna Kodumai? Jollya iruntha irandu jeevangal ippozhuthu Jail il? Yaar kutram?

My all time favourite headline is “Ulle veliye vilayidaya moondru per ulle”. Why Dinamalar is missing this punch headlines nowadays?

Anyways, my suggestion is, please read local news papers first ahead of international papers. You are going nowhere if you are feeling proud about your reading WSJ, but not local vernaculars. “Namma veetuku vasapadi enga irukunu therinjikama, Clinton veetu bedroom news padicha enna use?”
